Surrounding Dorothy are her three faithful companions: the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. Each character is portrayed with a level of detail that captures their distinct personalities.  
The Wicked Witch of the West looms ominously.  By positioning her in such a dominant part of the composition, Dean effectively captured the looming threat she represents throughout the story.
